If you know many Swedes that have said both one or two things about the headlite wipers that was introduced on the Saab 96 and 99 in 1971.

We have this government run inspection every year, and if the headlite wipers didn't work, they gave you a 2 (out of a 1,2,3 scale) 2 means you have to come back for another check at the test station. Given a 3 and you had to park the car at the spot and get a tow truck.
A 1 and you had to fix it in a certain time (but no one did).

The linkage on these early sideways working wiper blades together with the snow and rust problem in Sweden. I shiver just to think about them and what we had to do to make them work long enough so that the customer made it through the re test.

After what I've heard, that particular part don't have to work anymore when you have your car tested.
