Lived in da burgh from 1990 to 1994, having moved there from Colorado and now happily back in Denver.

I couldn't believe the yearly car inspection, which people said formerly was twice a year. Folks with older cars were brutalized by the repairs, they went over your car with a fine tooth comb. I had to take the tint off my windows, and my car flunked due to a dime size hole in the muffler, which I patched. They flunked it again, I called the State Police who said " no patching allowed - period "

Beer sold in state beer store, liquor in state liquor store, prices fixed by the state, prohibiting competitve pricing.

PA Turnpike, perpetual construction, costly, and police seemingly in every thicket.I actually received a speeding ticket based upon the time stamp from my entry toll both to my exit toll booth, I was pulled over by a state trooper conveniently positioned just after the booth.

Had to go all the way to the US Postmaster, fighting every step of the way to get the mail delivered to my house. The locals cited the rule " mail in rural areas can be only delivered to the post office" . It was likely 50 yrs ago when Ingomar was rural with respect to Pittsburgh.

Did enjoy the time there, met a lot of very nice folks. Absolutely fascinating history of the area, particularily in the industrial revolution period. I covered western and central PA on my job, and most every town had a mill or some connection to the steel industry. My dad was actually born in an ancient house still lived in McKeesport.

Go Steelers !
