$9k/year ... that's you car .. now what about maintenace (consumables such as fluids (oil, gas, tranny, etc), brake pads and whatnot. Those add up.
$9k/year + maint ... that'll get you through a year of university here in Ontario.
For what it's worth, I had an '85 900 8v automatic. No collision, cost me around $600/year to insure with Co-Operators. Only reason I took no collision was that it'd cost more to repair the car than what it was worth. the car was dirt cheap to run, and ran like a tank. If it got a little body work .. then well .. shit happens .. it's an old POS car. And I used it for 2 years of commuting from Hamilton to Missisauga. Very reliable considering the driving I took. Only changed the oil, brake pads and wiperblades. (tranny had never been opened, was going to stay that way)
