Well, this happened to me last Friday, and I am just now finally getting over it. But first a little history on me. I am 21 and my car is a mildly modded 1993 9k Aero. Though I am young, my car means alot to me, so I don't drive it agressively unless it is just me and the open road, Period.
Now the story, so I attend a college that necessitates driving 7 miles of Highway 1. So I am on my way home from school on friday, which happened to be a mid-70's, sunny day. So I had the sunroof open and the cruise set for 73 or so and was just minding my own business, passing the 60mph driving tourists(speed limit is 65 here), when this mid 40's guy comes flying up on me in his older Maxima, while I am about to pass this car. He gets less than a foot off my tail and starts yelling at me to get out of his way. So I pop the brakes to turn off cruise control, so I can move over, but he swerves into the other lane and cuts me off, so I speed off and get ahead of the car I was about to pass, and he follows me. I move over into the right hand lane and slow down to a normal speed, since we are about to hit a stoplight, and he persists to stay behind me and tailgate me while yelling at me from inside of his car. Well, the light turns red a few cars before I get there so I catch the entire light with this crazy guy behind me. We are sitting there, he is still right behind me, and he is going insane with anger, beating his fist against his hand, neck veins bulging, cussing up a storm, and trying to get me to fight. Well I can't help but laugh at this guy being so mad at me for doing what any normal person would do, so I turn around and shrug my shoulders at him and mouth "what?." This makes him go berzerk, so he reaches into the passenger seat, rummages through a bag and pulls out a Hammer. He then starts to beat this against his hand and wave it at me, and is now yelling things as serious as "I'll kill you, m**F**!" So I start thinking, wow this guy is serious, I need to try to lose him, so I turn a few streets later, hoping that he will be done, and I then turn again right away thinking that he won't want to follow if he thinks I'm going to play games, but he follows. So I decide that I need to take this somewhere public so I don't get beaten with a hammer and left for dead, so I remember that the police station is only two blocks away, so I head there.
I arrive and there are no parking spots right in front so I park as close as I can, by blocking a driveway to a nearby business, and blocking in another car as well, he then blocks my car in, and we both get out of our cars. I start off toward the police station and say to him, "you want this to end this way?" And he cuts me off and gets right in my face, and tells me I made him brake-check and its illegal to do that, with many more cuss words in between all this. I say "thats not illegal", to which he responds with "well, its illegal to me!" Well he won't let me go into the police station, won't let me get to my car and says he'll follow me where ever I go and beat me up or kill me. By this time the lady who owns the car that I have blocked is at her car and sees us, so she goes and gets a cop. The cop breaks us up and asks me what is going on since the guy is raging and I am rater cool for what is happening to me. So I start to tell this story and Crazy man keeps trying to cut in and tell his version of the story. So the cop says, "sit down and I'll get to you later" but Crazy just keep standing, so the cop repeats himself, and then I keep going with my story, as I'm talking another cop comes out and starts interrogating Crazy man, and ends up looking inside his car and sees the hammers and asks what it is doing laying on his passenger seat. Crazy man says "oh, nothing" So I say, "don't lie, you said you were going to kill me with that." So in the end, the cops ask if I want him locked up, and I had to say yes because I couldn't leave there without him following me otherwise, and they wouldn't mediate a convesation between us. So he is in there for exhibiting a deadly weapon, and I must testify against him if the D.A. decides to pursue the case.
So a word to all others out there, take road rage serious. It isnt fun in the end to make these people upset.
