Although some bridges are lower. I got stuck under one once after the road was repaved. That couple of inches of asphalt made a big difference. The cop tried to give me a ticket but I demanded that the clearance be measured and it turned out to be less than the sign said.
There used to be a tunnel under a railroad near a refinery in NJ that had 12' 6" clearance....in the middle. It it was an arch, Tankers could get through but box trucks lost the corners.
