didn't want the flak. The NG900 received a "marginal" score in IIHS tests, yet the IIHS list of money paid per injury claim ranked it best in its class. This got me thinking, if it received the second worst score in crash tests, how can it be best in its class in real world safety?
So, I gathered all the IIHS data and tried some statistics (not my forté). There's a correlation between their tests, but it's really not very strong. I was going to write a paper about this (I'm in the crash business, for Navy helicopters mainly), but then realized the heat I'd get if it was published or I presented it at a conference, and opted not to (busy with other work and being week in statistics were other factors). Recently, though, USA Today ran an article about this.
BTW, I have the IIHS insurance claim data sheets hanging outside my cube, with Saab proudly highlighted at the top (or near top) of their classes.
