Decisions? for the Dad, 91 900 or my 86 9000T,

His 91 900 is in great shape body wise, 160k, not a spot of rust (New Mexico) but, tranny pops out of second, a/c gone (don't REALLY need it), needs steering rack, steering pump, etc. His local mechanic said 3 to 5k $$$.
I could spend several trips this summer on my back in his garage, got most tools, mechanical inclination, know how to properly cuss and draw blood with most any implement (no hurry, their second car, and I fly free).
OOOORRRR, we could sell it to one you fine people who want a rust-free fixer-upper and give him my extra 9000t which has 160k, needs some pulley replaced (worst case - the crank pulley) and has a very slow leak in my R134 conversion, about a can every 3 months. I've kept up on the 9000 pretty good. I was all ready to tell him to sell the 900 until I saw it last week. It is in really fine shape not withstanding the tranny and steering woes.
Any advice or input greatly appreciated,
Doug P 99 9-3 57k, 86 9000T 160k, and Dad's 91 C900 160k
