I agree that Honda has really stepped up in many regards. The HRV and newest CRV look great for that sort of vehicle also.
Hondas are generally considered appliances in terms of reliability... but that said, we have 3 Saab 9-5s that have outlasted another family member's Honda civic (2006) which had an engine failure and rotted out from rust (structurally before it was evident cosmetically). Our 9-5s will probably outlast the 2010 civic that replaced it.
I have been looking at possible future cars and honestly it is hard to replace the 9-5 wagon. V90 xc holds less, gets the same fuel economy, and now costs $70k, or used with lots of miles costs what a 9-5 ran new... crazy. Our 9-5s are packing on the miles but it is tempting to find a lower mileage one to just keep going with Saabs as long as I can...
