This time I eliminate the #1 complaint I had on the 2001 - the automatic tranny. This time I got the 6spd and there is a huge difference. My 2001 was one of the first off the boat and the little electrical gremlins were bound to happen. My 2004 has been a champ. The 6spd is well matched to the engine. The handling can easily be improved with new anti-sway bars (not available back in 2001. I also got an ECU upgrade to 318hp - its very quick for a family wagon. I moved back east so I really wanted the awd capabilities given I live 200 feet straight up a hill and ski often.
The only other car I bought twice was a Viggen:) I am going to keep the allroad for a while now that I have 3 kids I need the space - not much out there that can deliver performance and space.
