Points to ponder... Posted by Clay McNeely [Email] (#497) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Clay McNeely) on Fri, 4 Jun 2004 09:23:34 In Reply to: A3, egsAero, Fri, 4 Jun 2004 09:21:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm not a huge fan of that grille, but the overall look and stance of the car is fairly nice. The interior is decent, too. Regardless, there are a few key points to look at.
First of all, the 9-2X is here now...the A3 Sportback is not. Having that said, there is currently no competition - the 9-2X wins.
GM has promised that Saab is working on a genuine replacement vehicle, rather than the "gap filler" 9-2X. While the 9-2X is apparently nice in many ways, I am positive that the replacement will be much more refined, better engineered, and just flat-out gorgeous. I'm not saying the current 9-2X isn't good...I'm just saying that the replacement could be better. Having that said, the 9-2X replacement will win.
The A3 Sportback may give the 9-2X a good run for its money for a short while after domestic introduction, but I believe that time will quickly pass. The point of the 9-2X is to get in the game early, which really hasn't ever been done by Saab before (not in the recent past, anyway). Now that Saab has something out in the market place, they can exert their energy on refining that product...or in this case, they can work on designing and engineering a completely new replacement for that particular segment.
Just a few points to ponder. Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
