I could suffer with a 5 series or just about any BMW. I could probably afford a new 3 series on my Saab commissions. Price no object an M5 comes to mind.
Helps that we're also a BMW dealer.......
I'm not taking anything away from quite a few of the more unique cars that you can't get parts and service for in SoCal, I've owned an Alfa, but if it's not a Saab and I have to go mainstream, really mainstream, there's really no other choice for me in a new or newer car. BMW has made quite a few classics too.
i.e., we had a '98 540i 6 speed with the sport package, 75k miles, less than $20k, whole lotta' car. Big V8 hot rods I grew up with in the 60's used to be only domestic.
In a pure sports car it's a Porsche for sure. I've seriously considered an older Boxster or 911.
Wifey wants a Z3 when the '93 900S finally dies, but it's *only* got 160k and going sorta' strong. Had a shot at a '98 Z3 M in the blue, but too expensive and maybe not the best for the wife.
Both BMW and Porsche have very active car clubs.
