I do not know what fashion/image requirements you or your family have, nor many other factors that will influence your decision, but if the fashion/image needs are not excessive, ie if practicality governs, and your curent Honda is not beyond redemption from rust or the like, then I suggest
A) Figure up about 6 months of payments on a new vehicle and dump that money into your current Honda. Or 12 months. Or pick your time frame. Look at the bottom line over time.
B) The Scion is an excellent choice if you need something new of similar capability.
Continuing to maintain your existing well-maintained vehicle into the far future will almost always be cheaper than buying a new one. Yes it is true that decision points will come. They will come sooner when maintenance has been neglected to the point that it is cheaper to buy something else than to maintain your beater. If you run the numbers, I think you will find this is true through engine rebuild, transmission replacement, repaint & body upgrade, expensive though those jobs may appear individually. Rust belt vehicles may become unmaintainable sooner than ones from places where they don't salt the roads.
