The Disco's, starting in '98 went through a rebuild where many, many documented cases of failures of a bunch of systems has been documented. Up to 1997 - they seem to be rock solid. Again, this is the Disco. I too, really like the Disco, but the overall build quailty seems to suffer, it's all the small stuff that adds up, mainly with electrical issues.
Regarding the suspension, this issue is with the Rover's. Don't know the exact year (roughly 95) they went to a "remote" air controlled suspension system. I'm sure you're familiar with these different settings, depending on your needs the suspension raises or lowers the truck. I met many owners selling their Rovers who volunteered the fact they took this system out and replaced it all with standard stuff (Rancho's, Bilstein's, etc). Pay attention to the transfer case and tranny fluids as well.
As much as I dislike my Nissan, there's something about being in something so common no one even looks! It's really not a bad ride, but you really see the difference between Asian and Euro and how they view a car/truck...whatever they build.
