Despite the very similar specs the Aero is faster, quicker and gets better milage. The T5 is a bit more comfy on longer trips- probably because of the taller tires.
Materials are very comparable-good.
The manual shift Volvo is one of the worst combinations of gas-clutch-shifter I've driven.
The brakes on both are good (both have GreenStuff pads) but the Aero is much more progressive- a little more pressure slows you a little more. The Volvo is not so linear.
Aero steering has much better feel of place and response- this may be the taller tires

Both have been nearly flawless the Volvo at 35k and the Aero at 65k. Just maintenance items.

Both have rain sensing wipers that I like a lot.
The Volvo wagon rear seat fold-down action is just terrific.

A big plus for the Aero is the driver controls layout: The speedo is asymmetrical, allowing more arc to describe the speed range you use the most; the sound controls on the steering wheel are not lit to distract at night but rather have palpable bumps to identify the wanted function without looking away from the road. Same for the cruise control. The info needed to operate the car is directly in front of the driver, other info like time, temp, radio station are seen in the place shared with the passenger. Volvo scatters stuff. The Volvo radio controls require looking at the radio.
The Volvo can ID the driver by which key you use to open the car and it sets the seat to you-maybe its coolest feature.

Saab continues to be the safest car in Sweden.
