Long distance BMW vs. SAAB (+)

I just returned from a long distance driving trip from Philly to south Florida. It was the first time we did it in our 2003 BMW 325i. We usually take our 1998 SAAB 900 whenever we go on a long distance trip.
I must admit that I like the BMW quite a bit. It is a superb car. It is just not nearly as comfortable on a long trip as our 900. Mostly the seats are pretty uncomfortable after a full day of driving. But other things too. After about 6 hours we started noticing the ride that was too firm, although we do have low profile summer tires on it (225/45-17 vs. 195/60-15 on the 900). Road noise normally seems to be minimal but after many hours you start to be annoyed by it more so than in our 900. Overall, I wish we drove our trusty SAAB.
There are two areas where BMW beats our 900 hand down. One is high speed handling -- RWD chassis feels wonderfully connected and provides high confidence even on poor surfaces. The other is climate control. BMW really got it right -- we set the temperature and the fan speed (minimum for us) and the system is smart enough to keep us very comfortable. I constantly have to fiddle with our SAAB climate control because one minute it is too warm and the next minute it is too cold.
