I recently purchased an older BMW 325ic with a serious power steering fluid leak. (My daily driver is a 1994 Aero) I was advised (on an E30 board) to remove the power steering belt and go without the power assist. I did so and the leak stopped completely. I really don't miss the power assist, but I am concerned that, because the car was designed to have power steering, that I will damage some other part of the steering system. BTW the boot was torn due to the leakage. Any thoughts on this?
