Personally I like the interior of the '09 Outback, fit and finish SEEM nicer than past models I remember looking at. Nothing to say about driving yet, this is all based on poking around at the Detroit Auto Show. I can't justify the extra money for the XT (their turbo 4), that's still a $30k car even after rebates 'n cash.
For my money I think the move "upmarket" for VW puts the Jetta squarely where Saab was with the C900 back at their peak. Good ergonomics, practical but sporty, and definitely NOT an Audi/BMW wannabe. Leather's fine, powered glowing gizmos are fine, but assuming that's what everyone wants/needs is a big leap. If I were in the market for a sedan I'd be ALL OVER the new VW CC. The jump to a 3-Series is a shocking amount of money (for me) but VW is a lot easier to me to wrap my head around and they make one of the very few wagons out there.
