The 2.0 TDI is a world engine sold in meany places around the world. VW is by far the most popular car brand around the world. Their TDi engines are in great demand everywhere. There are long waiting lists in many countries. In the US the TDi is a nitche product. It is in extremely short supply around the world.
The five cylinder gasoline is a US-only engine with little supply restriction (other than cylinder heads coming from Germany). Nobody else around the world wants it, we have it all to ourselves.
