Drove a BMW 318 diesel for 3 weeks in Sweden Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Mon, 28 Jun 2010 16:14:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
No need to have a gas engine anymore. This car accelerated as good and better than all Saab's I drive every day.
Too bad US is so slow in getting the diesel cars approved.
Just like many others I grew up with the Peugeot diesel in Sweden and they were horrible in noise, smoke and smell. Working on the Volvo diesels here in US in the early 90s just solidified my disgust for them and the anemic behavior they had, even the 740 turbo diesel.
But this new generations diesel engines are just awesome.
We have this stretch of Highway "back home" where we as kids used to test our cars top speed after we had done some upgrades. You floored the pedal at one road sign and measured the speed when you got to an uphill part of the road.
I remember my old Volvo 140 used to reach 120 Km/hour after some huffing and puffing. This little rascal, I had to let go early on after reaching 160 Km/hour and just didn't dare to push it further even though it had more to give.
No, I didn't have the trailer hooked up at that time. lol
