That's the car that led to my buying a new 1985 Saab 900 back in the day. At the time I worked for a (then) major computer company in their field organization and had a company car, a shiny brand-new 1984 Plymouth Reliant that I picked up at the dealer.
I never drove a car that fell apart as fast as that thing! It suffered from constant breakdowns and problems and had to be towed all over the landscape. The last straw was a fuel leak that had gasoline dribbling all over the exhaust manifold - I wound up ditching the K-car and buying the Saab. (The Company had an "alternate" car plan where they provided an allowance for an employee's own car plus paid for mileage.)
The K-car platform was used in a wide range of vehicles though. AMC was also a master at doing this, most of their passenger cars were built from the same parts bin, and in many cases a single basic platform. Straying from that strategy is partly what got them into so much financial trouble, ending with their acquisition first by Renault and finally by Chrysler.)
