Meh... time heals all wounds? The MkIIIs are pretty well understood and piled up in junkyards so keeping one alive shouldn't be too terrible at this point. I believe they were all powered by the 2.0l SOHC motor which is slower than snot but durable, but the automatics are less so. If it's something you plan on DDing, I would budget for a new transmission unless you can find one with a recent rebuild. Not saying it would be necessary for sure, but I'd account for that.
Why not look at a C70?
