I was liking the new Corvette, and while they are nice, I'm over that idea. I do get to drive some pretty exotic, 400 and 500 horsepower plus stuff as part of my job and the one thing I've learned is that most of the fun when it comes to cars on public roads happens between 0-80 mph. You might hit 100 mph for a few seconds once and a while, but unless you have access to a race track, you're really pushing your luck at anything beyond that. So basically the upper half of these cars performance is a total waste. What I like about the Alfa is that it's light and therefore doesn't need 500 horsepower. With 0-60 in the low 4's and 12 second quarter it offers Corvette performance on half the horsepower--plus all the other benefits (handling, economy) of light weight. It's pretty much the formula of British sports cars and Porsche's of the sixties (ramped WAY up). It's reasonably priced and has a turbo four (which I love). While a Cayman or Boxster is comparably priced and much more civilized, what the 4C offers is an experience. If I bought a car like that it wouldn't be to take long trips or for transportation. I think would offer the fun of an exotic for a fraction of the price. I want one.
