rust = bummer
your '90 has LH2.4, so get a LH2.4 Turbo ECU, injectors, and distributor. fix distrib capsule so it does not advance any more. don't use the 900S hall sensor at the crank. keep EZK system to handle advance, but let the capsule handle retard on boost. put in a tach with boost gauge. install an APC system (stack its knock sensor on top of the existing EZK sensor with a longer bolt).
You can also do the whole 88 harness if you want, just depends on what your motivation level is. for emissions the LH2.4 is better than the LH2.2 in your 88, i would not swap it forward. above method is easy in my opinion. with careful reading of wiring diagrams, a seamless stock APC install can be done using the plugs at the left driver side wheel well inside car. or a rougher install can be done - it is mostly a standalone system after all.
don't use the transmission unless it has _chain driven_ primaries!
do use 88T springs and shocks.
you'll need the wiring connectors at the lights to convert back to the earlier style front end. you may also need to remove some of the items in the front fenders in order to bolt on the airdam. this is a pain.
