also, the cat turns exhaust nasties into water and co2, ideally. water and co2 mix to form carbonic acid, weak but acidic. there are also lots of other compounds that a cat will make in the real world, including sulphur dioxide, hydrogen sulphide, and different oxides of nitrogen. many of these are corrosive or one step away from corrosive.
combustion ceates a lot of different compounds. most are nasty.
the best thing is to never drive the car less than 10 miles. or at least once a week, go for a good long therapy ride.
