yeah, great vehicles, but i now expect cars to have heat and be able to go up hills, something the little 1600 had problems with.
i built a bus with a water cooled 1700cc Rabbit engine, and went on a road trip. the bus was great, had great acceleration and got 27 MPG. (this is with a stock SOHC engine, one of the late carbie engines with that $600 dollar carb. well, mine had a beetle carb, but still)
all was great until we hit the elk. damn, those things are big. this was in the mountains of New Mexico, 8600 foot altitude, 2300 miles from home. needless to say, it ended the trip. and the bus.
bummer.
oh well. still have the engine and adaptor plate, if anyone wants to try it. i recommend not hitting 1500lb elk bulls, tho.
never built a real strong aircooledd motor, but the one you built sounds sick. i would have done a big type 4 too, with a 911 style fan shroud (to lose a hundred pounds of ducting) but went with water cooled instead. what year was the bus?
