The VW guys are using this.
Uses Boron which is safe for brass/copper.
$3.50 a quart, but I'll post what I pay local.

transmission lubricants.

Chevron Delo Trans Fluid ESI is a premium grade,
heavy duty truck manual transmission fluid.
It is formulated with ISOSYN® base stocks and compounded
with a unique extreme pressure additive utilizing
an inorganic borate compound. It also contains
oxidation, corrosion, rust, and foam inhibitors.
This product is ideally suited for transmissions exposed
to extremely high temperatures and loads. It is non-corrosive
toward copper oil coolers.
Tests have proven that Chevron Delo Trans Fluid ESI
provides a thick wear protection film composed of compounds
that do not adversely react with metal. This film
readily forms to provide superior gear protection even
under extreme high loads.
By minimizing friction, cooler operating temperatures
have been observed. This results in improved thermal
stability for longer transmission and lubricant life. Onhighway,
industry-standard, fuel economy tests in heavy
duty trucks have shown equivalent fuel economy compared
to SAE 50 synthetic transmission lubricants.
APPLICATIONS
Chevron Delo Trans Fluid ESI is
recommended for use in heavy
duty manual transmissions, such
as those manufactured by Eaton,
Meritor, and Mack. Its exceptional thermal and oxidation
stability, and antiwear performance, permit longer
transmission life and extended drain intervals.
Chevron Delo Trans Fluid ESI has undergone extensive
bench and field tests which have demonstrated equivalent
performance to synthetic transmission fluids in
extended-drain, severe-service applications. In particular,
this product underwent a grueling, 5-year, on-highway
test in more than 150 Class 8 truck transmissions.
The oil drain interval was greater than 500,000 miles for
all units. End-of-test inspections of 32 transmissions all
showed excellent results for gear, bearing, and seal protection.
Chevron Delo Trans Fluid ESI is approved for Mack
TO-A PLUS with extended warranty and 500,000-mile
drain interval. In addition, Chevron Delo Trans Fluid ESI
has met both Eaton and Meritor critical extended-drain
performance requirements of field testing and oxidation
stability after 300 hours at 325°F.
