The 94+ head can be most easily identified at the chain end: If there are two *unthreaded* holes for bolts that attach the head to the timing chain cover, then it is a 94+ head. These holes are spaced approx 3-inches apart, pass all the way through the head casting, and are visible when viewing the head from *above* OR *below*.
(On a pre-94 head, there are also bolt holes, but they are visible from *below only*, do not pass through the casting, and are *threaded*.)
Also, the 94+ heads will not have any threaded bolts holes to attach AC or PS equipment at the chain end, whereas the 93 and earlier heads will have four (three??) holes. The holes are parallel to the cams' axes.
A 93 or earlier head will have a large "X" pattern cast into the chain end that basically spans the entire side.
If you are still uncertain, a 94+ head will have 33mm intake valves; earlier heads were 32mm.
