When comparing NOKIAN WR's to Blizzaks you need to undestand this. The NOKIAN WR is rated a FOUR SEASON tire,It is also "H" rated. The first generation WR was called the NRW,that was designed for High speeds such as the Autobahn in europe.Nokian WR's are "NOT" a DEDICATED snow tire like the Blizzak.Nokian never did call the WR a Snow tire. Nokian WR's are mostly for people that decide not to have two sets of tires. It is the most aggressive all season radial one can purchase. They are ok in the rain. hot summer days, and work much better than your everyday all season radial. If you want dedicated snow tires...you buy Nokian Hakkapellitta or Nokian RSI or Choose Bridgestone Blizzaks which are very grippy on the ICE. Most snow tire manufacturer's have gone to very "siped" tires like the Blizzaks or Nokian RSI's.The days of the big "KNOBS" are gone!!!
If most of my winter driving involved lots of deep snow ..I would choose the NOKIAN Hakka 2....If I were concerned about driving on ICEY roads my choice would be the Blizzaks.
The Nokian Snow tire will last for a good 40-50,000 miles for most people. the Blizzak secret is the soft rubber compound. If a blizzak is driven on a lot of dry roads you can say goodbye to that tire in less than 20,000 miles.I've had customers that could not even make it through the winter on the "SOFTIE" tires if they do a lot of driving!!!
Just keep in mind Nokian WR is "H" rated
Most dedicated winter tires are "T" rated
Therefore, winter tires on a performance car will give up in heavy (real heavy) cornering on dry pavement.
