Used IC warning...

...There may be large objects hiding in used SMIC's just waiting to destroy our turbos.
Just decided to swap in a 'new to me' Mitsubishi Talon SMIC. It arived to my house with capped ends. It was a tad dirty, so I put it in the dishwasher and it cam out beautiful. Then I removed the caps and began to wash the inside with dishwashing soap. Intercoolers have an in side and an out side, with the fins acting like a filter. It would seem that on the in and out sides reverse when using the car on a Saab 900 Classic. So, as I washed out the out end expecting only dirty oil, 5 rubber pieces each 1cm square tumbled out. Each piece was big enough to jam a turbo, and none of the pieces rattled around inside the SMIC when I turned it over to see if any junk was inside.
What I think is that the rubber pieces were glued down to the SMIC by old oil and sludge. Washing the old oil out allowed this bad stuff to come out prior to killing my turbo.
Best,
C
