It still amazes me how well my 9-5 does on the tail of the dragon.. I took a trip to Gatlinburg this weekend and had to make a stop for a few runs. The car did great despite having crappy tires(Yoko 520's) for driving at the limit and sometimes beyond. I think I left a few chunks out of the 520 tread wear rated tires on the road in the curves. I had no problem pushing the car to keep up with a group of guys running 2 Camaro Z-28's and 1 SS, but I did get killed by a guy running a money pit Honda S2000. Power wise I was able to keep up as he had to do a ton of shifting, but those cars are like nothing else in the curves. All in all I did a little over 50 miles of all out flogging to my 9-5 and it took it all in stride. The only ill effects were almost on fire break pads and a bottle of mobil 1 imploding in my trunk(damn thing escaped with a few other things out of the cargo net!!)
I can't wait to put the ceramic pads on and use sticky tires again like I had on it the first time (brand new saab front brake pads completely blew apart at the end of the run almost sending me off a cliff....) and hopefully have a small upgrade in power. What I did notice that I think I need the most is a limited slip for it. With the esp off and powering out of tight turns in 2nd gear around 25 mph the inside tire would get lit up everytime. Also, if anyone has an old set of rims, or even just 2 17" inchers they would like to get rid of let me know. I still have 2 brand new 160 tread wear HTR Z's that I want to stick on the fronts for when I ride up there. Well as I read what I wrote I can tell it is time for me to hit the sack as it looks like this post was written by a 5 year old. Everyone take care and make it a point to look up the tail of the dragon on the internet....you have to see what you are missing if you don't go :)
