Sounds like it's not directly related to the downpipe. As others have said, OBDII diagnostics are pretty good, if the front O2 had a problem it'd throw a code for the front, not the rear.
It may just be a coincidental failure, maybe a short in the wiring harness somewhere? You'll probably have to troubleshoot it the "old-fashioned way", visually and with a multimeter. It's also possible, though unlikely, that the original rear O2 sensor was bad and so was the replacement.
Was the DP the only change? If you changed the ECU at the same time, bad ECU is a possibility.
