You could solder a header connector onto your ECU, use a ribbon wire, and then have a ZIF chip holder that plugs into the other end of the extension ribbon wire.
I had my T-7 car ZIF-ed for awhile and it wasn't a problem...although I don't think you'd even need a ZIF becuase I believe the format of your chip is standard DIP(?)
Whatever the case, pull the cover on your ECU and get the chip number. Look up the specifications for that chip, specifically, what the logic level is and what the sizing format is.
You'll find out pretty quickly if you've made your ribbon wire too long and EMF becomes an issue...
Try any of this at your own risk of course ;)
