Knew a guy in South carolina with a pristine '92 CV who started the process of putting a Buick transversly mounted mess in it. He was essentially cutting off the whole front ends of the saab and the buick, swapping the two and then finding a way to re-connect the saab fenders and hood. He ran a body shop so I suppose with enough time and effort it could be done. He wanted more power from his car but didn't dare push it through the Saab autobox. (some leg injury made it impossibly for him to drive a stick.) I suggested he just get a different, later saab but he was only appreciative of the classic 900...nothing else swedish. I am already somewhat put off by the nose-heavy aspect of the 900...sticking a V8 with giant auto tranny up front wouldn't solve that problem I believe. you'd have to put sandbags in the trunk to balance the car out.
Now, my 2 cents...If money isn't the real issue, how is it you can't find a donor 5 speed. They are not that hard to find. There are a couple great looking/sounding cars in the classifieds of this site that are going for less than 2500. You'd be in that deep just thinking about putting a different arrangement in your car.
Hope you find a solution.
