hey geo,
I just did the balance chain removel last week-end. Why are you taking it out?...Yes,, you drop the oil pan, and most people use a dremel tool to cut the chain, as it is very tight in there ,(not much space to work) in my opinion.Make sure use an Anaerobic gasket maker(only cures in absence of air)..You will need some O-rings also..Change your oil sooon there after. I used a magnetic oil drain plug for this, and it gobbled up whatever filings were left over. I felt some vibration differences. If you want the REAL nice, smooth condition Saabs have, i would think twice about removing the chain. Some people are kinda forced to...No need to plug anything in regards to your oil pressure question. Lots of people have done this
