Congrats on the new STi...nice car! I'd definitely take one over a Saab SS even without having driven the new STi which is supposed to be a bit tamer than the model it replaces.

A few years ago when I was considering a replacement for my old SPG, I considered the STi. I ended up with a Viggen though only because it felt more refined and the Viggen felt faster in some cases such as passing on the highway. The STi was a hoot to drive and felt like a race car.

With respect to the numbers on paper, I think oner has to take into account that the STi loses quite a bit of HP (20 -30%) to it's 4 drive train. Although the improved traction helps from standing starts, it does little but rob power once moving on a clear road. Perhaps that is what you are noticing?
