I recently bought a rebuilt tranny. It had the 4.05 final drive to begin with, and I had the Viggen synchros installed on 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse. Also had a Quaife LSD put in.
The 9000 transmission's main weak point is shock loads like when one wheel spins, during wheel hop etc. A lot of people running high output 9000s in Sweden have found that their transmission longevity increased enormously with an LSD.
On the other hand my old stock transmission made it to >220k miles without any problems other than a slight whine during the last couple of months. And it definitely hasn't been babied!
