Hi. Some thoughts from someone of similar interests...
I'm currently building a track-only car from an '88 900 2 door, for pretty-much the reasons Justin mentioned: lightest stiffest 900, more room around the engine, power steering AND what I believe is the potential to make it lighter than the 2dr 99EMS I had been racing before. Power steering is a major plus point as I have unpleasant memories of having shoulder pain so bad I nearly couldn't complete an event ['quick' heavy rack, sticky race tyres and a twisty circuit]. BTW A teeny advantage of the 900 over a 99 is that because the screen is a little deeper you can mount the seat just a little lower for better CoG and still see out. The aluminium bits save weight, as does the plastic fuel tank [you may be putting a small fuel cell in anyway] - the entire back panel between the lights on the 2dr 900s is alu, plus you can cut round holes in it to lighten it further. Actually there are lots of places you can do that if you're careful, without really affecting rigidity. Chopping out any unused brackets helps too. as does removing the tar-like sound deadening from the floor and all that other stuff you know about already. I tried the exercise of stripping out a 900 Aero/[SPG to you]and weighing stuff as it came out and I collected about 200kg without trying too hard. It can become a bit obsessive but it is actually a bit fun trying to think of new creative ways to save weight. Food poisoning will remove a few kilos from the driver but i can't recommend it..!
Have fun.
John.
