Engine rebuild

I just picked up a possibly sludged 2001 aero 9-5 to coincide with blowing the tranny on my stage 3 '96 9000. Some have suggested using the block, pistons, rods and crank from the 9000 to rebuild the engine on the 9-5. Can anyone tell me if it is folly to do so, and if not, why?
A secondary thought tied to the rebuild is the balance shaft question: the car is an automatic (a first for me... and not a happy first) but it seems silly to get into the engine and then leave those parts alone but replacing them nearly doubled the cost of the whole job. Would the suggestion still be to yank the mess out?
Any suggestions on the best way to go for bearings and rings would be welcomed.
Thanks all.
Dan
