Building your header to fit a non stock C-900 location turbo is the way to go! Take a look at Jon's link below at the turbo and down-pipe I did for Bryan's Airflow and you'll see all the craziness we went through to get an efficient turbo to fit basically in the original location! Your band clamp idea is great as long as it doesn't complicate your 4 tube transition over a flange mount turbo inlet? As far as a band clamp outlet just make sure you have a smooth transition out of the turbo! I get my 7 degree SS transitions from Burns Stainless which you can see from Jon's photo's work beautifully. Your also on the right track going with an external waste gate so you don't have to go through all the trouble of creating a divided wasted exhaust like I did on Claude's ice race car. You'll probably end up going with a 4 bolt outlet flange turbo which should make a 7 degree (included angle) Burns transition easy to do. Another plus for you is that a ball bearing turbo only requires a -10 AN line for your oil return line rather than the -12 I made for Bryan's plain bearing turbo plus you can buy a ready made flange to -10 ( http://www.russellperformance.com/mc/adapt_fit/img/697070_lg.jpg ) for a Garrett BB turbo. Then just machine a piece out of 6061 aluminum to press fit into your block with a 1/2" NPT ID for a -10 AN to 1/2" NPT straight flare to pipe AN fitting. You can then use 45 degree -10 hose ends to make the line fit without being too close to your header. I actually had to use a 45 out of Bryan's block with a 45 hose end to clear one of Jon's header tubes so keep the return line path in mind when you're building the header! Did you ever consider mounting your turbo 9000 style? I'm doing a friend's C-900 with an early 9000T exhaust manifold to get the turbo in a better spot! Once perfected he could build a proper tube header after the fact. I have all the Russell fittings you'll need in stock and even already have a press fit 1/2" NPT ID piece made up that I eventually got back when the USPS lost it on it's way to a C-900 owner in Canada also with a BB turbo. By the way Nick has real nice blended header flanges ( http://www.genuinesaab.com/catalog/popup_image.php?pID=786 ) if Jon doesn't have any left? Keep up the good work and do let us all know how it goes! Dave
