Nice of everyone to react to my comment about "Contact Patch".
I purposely didn't use the word SIZE in my original post. Seems everyone is fixed on size.
The shape of the patch and the pressure differences across the patch area differ significantly with differing wheel, tire, camber ...ect setups.
By measuring the temperature across the wheel after a lapping session one can tell how well the tire is contacting the road across its tread area,
suspension, air pressure adjustments can then be used to make the temperature distribution more uniform.
From experience I have found that at road speeds narrower tires on 9000's tend to measure and perform more appropriately. I am using 215/45/16 currently on 8 inch wide rims. Rim width too wide is better than too narrow.
