Turning a 9000 into a track monster?

As the owner of two nice 9000 CSE's I really don't need another one, but these really seem to have hit the bottom of their depreciation curve and I am so tempted when I see nice ones for sale in the $2k range. So I am wondering about getting one and making it into a track project. I currently use my 944 for track days although before I got that I took my 9000 out a few times (Stg 3, Sachs sports chassis kit and SAS swaybars - although I didn't have all those upgrades when I was tracking it) and it did OK. 944's are everywhere on the track but I've never seen another 9k so it would be fun to have one there just to surprise people and make them look twice.
Anybody done this? Before I go down this road I just want to get a reality check of whether this is feasible or whether it would just get spanked by Miatas in the twisty bits! I am thinking that with an LSD, some stiffer suspension bits and some strategic lightening, you ought to be able to make something pretty competitive, especially with all the scope for tuning after this.
