Here are the issues:
External boost controllers are installed external to the ECU's feedback loop. The pressure achievable is limited by the ECU's internal fuel cut limit, which is reported to be 1.15 BAR. If you install one of these, it will cost about $100 US. It is inexpensive, easy to install and reversable. You get the same boost poential in all gears. So first gear will spin the tires if you don't learn to drive with your foot instead of the floor mat. You do not need a boost guage.
Modfied ECUs still provide some boost limiting in the first two gears, but wheel spin is still possible. You still have to learn to control the throttle. The fuel cut pressure is increased. The max boost is 1.3 BAR. The cost is high. You have to remove your ECU and send it to England or Sweden. If your ECU ever dies, you will have to send a replacement unit overseas once again, perhaps getting a special price for the work. You can install the box easy enough. You probably have to install a new wastegate actuator, and this will be done in a shop, or your self if you have a boost guage. It cannot be practically reversed.
The modified ECU provides more power and is easier to control in 1st gear. But you have to weigh the 500 to 1000 cost of the modified ECU against a $100 external boost controller.
