Ok I own a '88 900 SPG . I dont have any major modifications other than a redbox, 3bar fpr, 2.5" catback. I dont normally race this old sled, but this fool in his '99 SI last night wanted some.
Pulled up to a stoplight and about a few secs later he pulls up, with all of his accessories like a wing and neon ground effects, borla, and most importantly his smokin girlfriend. Given the fact that 1st gear in a c900 is worthless, i decided to pull from second. Gave the tired ol' spg some gas to 4500 rpm and held it there for a few seconds. I dont think that this moron in his civic expected this, but at the light i dumped the friggin thing. My SPG shot off the line with unexpected brilliance leaving the boy in his rice frier smoking his tires looking like a amateur. I ended up beating him by about 5 car lengths to the next set of lights. Where I stopped and again this guy pulls up looking at me all confused as to why a car with parts in it dating back to '79 just embarassed his "21st century muscle car". He's like "Let see if you can do that again". I rolled down my 5% tint window and said "go ahead dude, put that slave in your passenger seat on the line and ill think about it". This seemed to irritate him a bit and meanwhile the light turned green. I had it in second again, but decided to further familiarize this guy to my taillights with a 5000rpm clutch drop in second. Again the immortal SPG gripped and took off. He kept up with me until i hit 4th and at this point the wimp cut his throttle, i think the near triple digit speeds scared him, or maybe his Jamex springs were installed incorrectly and his alignment was all messed up(why are all lowered cars like this?) and he couldnt take it anymore. There you go, another genuine kill story that took place on rt. 1 last night in drexel hill pa. which is near phila.
To all you street racers, 900s cannot take this abuse for very long as you may already know, but when driven with precision, and if you avoid 1st, these cars will beat most jap ricers. Just remember, you have to get going fast early because hondas and all other jap crap makes power up top. If you can get ahead early before their car goes into "hyper speed" vtec or CVTC or vvti or cam-vario, you should beat them everytime.
