The Viggen was often described by drivers as Squirrley (SP?). It will never be obsolete, though. The Vector is a step below the Viggen, at 210 hp and with a 2.0 engine. It also boosts about 7 psi less than the Viggens.
The Aero model which Saab will eventually offer, as well as the Hirsch performance packages (which I asked a LOT of questions about) should eclipse the Viggen performance quite easily. 305 hp/ ft.lbs torque are projected for the Hirsch equipped rides. Saab is still determining how to make those available (custom ordered or sell the parts as stand-alones.)
I think those who purchase these new 9-3s and equip them with Hirsch items will enjoy greater success (less encounters with torque steer, a tranny capable of 300 hp & 300 ft. lbs, etc) in their tuning efforts than with a Viggen.
