There's "leakage" and there's "Leakage"!
I'm with Johann that under normal circumstances any leakage that may occur with the plastic-tanked units is insignificant.
However, if you're running greatly increased boost, you can get to the point where the pressure inside the unit exceeds the holding-power of the crimped tabs holding the plastic tank on. Then there's a loud "poof" and all of a sudden no power. Look under the hood and you'll find one or both of the plastic intercooler parts has divorced itself from the metal part!
Don't ask me how I know this ;^)
