I'd look for a Snap-On or similar quality 1/2" drive E16 torx socket. I've personally broken 2 or 3 3/8" drive E16s working on the headbolts. They can't take the torque you apply, but a 1/2" drive one will.
I'd also consider getting the Saab clutch tools, but you can get away without these. The clutch spacer ring can be substituted with spark plug wire. Another trick I've tried is using the flexible part of one of those grabby arm thingies. Vice grips are quite nice to compress the springs on the pressure plate together too.
You can also use large 3/4" bolts with nuts to act as the control arm spacers.
I guess this doesn't really pertain to building the motor itself, but you will need to get the old one out and put the new one in! :)
