I have seen quite a few of the port tuners that have traditionally focused on the VW/Audi market expand into other areas and become quite successful at it. My experiences with one tuner that I work with fairly often was a pioneer in the VW market and then expanded to cover Porsche turbo cars which indeed was an expensive one that originally was frought with complications and gains that weren't very good for the money.. As an example, AutoThority in Virginia used to charge upwards of $4500 for a chip and filter for a mere 30 horsepower gain whereas the other company that I refer to (Audi Performance Racing or APR) got a ton more power and livable drivability out of the 993/996 cars for about a third of the cost.
I have approached them with the idea and they seem receptive to the idea and I am merely interested to see what other companies are out there that do these upgrades, what gains they get from their technology and what kind of market might be out there. I have had a great deal of interest in the Saab community but have been surprised at the lack of technical development for the enthusiast market for upgrades and thought it might be good to expend some energy to see if there might be more out there for enthusiasts who are interested in getting more performance for their dollar.
Feel free to email me privately with your experiences or interest if you would prefer.
