well here is part 2. What parts should I/we be looking to replace/monitor on our older high mileage 9000's?
in the past couple years for my '88:
-water pump (new OEM 10K km ago)
-serpentine belt (will be done again this week [see previous post])
-idler puller [see other post] the replacement OEM PLASTIC job I used apperently only had a lifespan of 170000 km;-)
transmission (1990 version with 100Kkm on it now)
-clutch (HP Sachs)
-clutch master cylinder (on #4 actually, but this one is a 'upgraded OEM model'hmmm
-CV boots a few years ago (thick OEM) all bearings (inner outer) re greased no londer than 4 years ago)
-ABS unit including master cylinder (used good unit)
-radiator
-thermostat/fanswitch
-head gasket ~70000km ago (in 2000)
-alternator brushes (in 2000)
-motor mounts (continuously it seems)
-control arm bushings
and of coarse the usual cap/rotor, plugs/wires
What I will do this year:
-oil pump seal
-crank pump seal
-distributor o-ring
-fuel pump (a planned upgrade to Swedish dynamis high flow OEM replacement for my tuned motor)
-timing chain guide on valve cover
-valve cover gasket
-heater core (FINALLY is smelling!)
-and of course sepentine belt and idler pulley [see previous post])
front and rear rotors (group9 brembo gas slotted--very good price)
-oil pan gasket
other than that, compression is great, all bearings are smooth (alternator/water pump oil pump). Burns little oil...I didin't have to top up much at all,,,about 1/8th of a litre) in 6000Km of hard driving. Very quiet still (no valve noise, no timing noise (fixed with new guide)
Anything else in terms of general bits and pieces that go bad at high miles???
Aside from the above,,,,,,I'm adding a T3 super 60 turbo as I do get a bit of oil burn after a warm restart and engine breaking at high RPM down the mountains (after a minute or so). OThger things maybe like a Volvo ECU/AMM/injector (30# low impedence) combo from a B230FT 760 (for info see JAK on the perf board), to manage the bigger boost and drivability. I guess that will get rid of the old 005AMM issues eh? A 'proper' water injection system as well. I'm actually going to turn down the boost to 18lbs max with hte bigger turbo for 'reliability' concerns. BUT all of this is a different story!
thanks
Steve
