Hi,
I have a 87 9000T and blew my head gasket. So I picked up a used 2.3L head for 100$ and spent 250$ for a mill, valve job and knurled valve guides. I installed the 2.1 intake and the car ran like crap. I paid a machine shop 40$ to port my original 2.0L intake to match the 2.3L head. I simply held a 2.3 L gasket and scribed the increased size and the shop ported it in 45 minutes. The 2.3L head drops the compression slightly so you can run higher boost. I lost some low end because she doesn't spool as quickly, I.E less venturie effect for the turbo, but above 3000 RPM she goes well. I have a RED APC and larger injectors a K&N and 15LBS wastgate control arm ?
P.s dont build a 900 to much, if your a student it will kill your bank account to keep replacing a trany. Save your self time and energy keep a semi stock motor and put the cash into the suspension and brakes, the car would have much better track times. Thats just my 2 cents. Other may disagree. The best bet is to fix your car and buy a 91-93ish 9000T
Good luck.
