It has come up time and time again the wish for a larger outlet nipple on the dawes style MBC so i gave it a shot:

I got he same style outlet elbow but instead of the normal .17" outlet, I put a 1/4" outlet on it. I had do modify it slitghtly as the nipple is longer than the .17" outlet nipple. So I cut the end off and sanded it to a slight taper similar to the stock outlet on the side that is pressed into the unit. So this modification looks identical to the stock dawes except the outlet is larger. I was not looking for any better performance from the dawes just a more appropriate size outlet for the hoses to clamp better.

The result was interesting:
On my car '99 SE 5spd, my noral setting of the MBC is pretty much cranked in all the way so i set the new one the same. Boost was slightly reduced from normal.

Threw it in Bobbys car '99 automatic and had great difficulty getting it do the job. Either too much or too little boost, there seem to be no perfect ground. So we changed out the modified MBC and threw in a normal dawes style MBC, tuned that one on in no time flat.

So, first set of conclusions, a bigger outlet changes boost, by reducing it, which means that the WG is opening quicker, or because of the fact I running the MBC+A, maybe the APR setting needs to be reduced with the bigger outlet.

I need to do some more testing on it but I was surprised that it changed the MBC character just by adding a bigger outlet.
What do you think?
Dean, any theories?

I'd post pics of the difference but I'm on the wifes computer curently.
